Sams Chicken - A franchise case study

Sam’s Chicken “The Home of Great Tasting Chicken” was first established in 1993 with its first store opening in Harrow, London. The chain was founded by Sam Chandrasinghe who was previously UK Deputy operations director for Kentucky Fried Chicken.

The Sam’s Chicken chain now has 45 outlets comprising of both company and franchise stores predominantly in London, but is now focusing on expansion throughout the UK. With a current network of 18 individual franchisors, many owning multiple stores, the company continues to support their growth providing operational guidance throughout.

The menu at Sam’s Chicken is forever evolving, serving both classic fried chicken and Grilled Peri Peri. In 2015 the chain was awarded with the “Healthy Catering Commitment in London Certificate” for its efforts to work closely with the council to provide healthier options on its menu without compromising on taste.

The company deals with several select manufacturers and suppliers that create products specifically for its stores, from weight calibrated poultry products to breading, marinades and sauces, ensuring consistency and quality throughout all its locations.

In 2005 they started their distribution company, Sam’s Fast Foods Ltd, to serve as a one-stop shop for its stores. With a warehouse in Barking, Essex and a fleet of temperature controlled vehicles it ensures stores receive their fresh, frozen and ambient goods throughout the week.

Sam’s Chicken prides itself on its steady and successful growth over the years, striving for quality as well as affordability. The company is always looking for committed and hard-working individuals to join their network to become part of this great operation and current mission of expansion throughout the UK!
