With churros being one of the trending sweet treats of 2019, Funnybones Foodservice has become the first wholesaler to introduce savoury versions of the popular deep-fried Mexican snack
The choux pastry used to create churros is a perfect partner for cheese and when cooked provides a crispy outer shell with a deliciously melty middle.
“Churros are one of those irresistible treats and our sweet versions which include a plain and a mini chocolate filled churros, are extremely popular,” says Tom Styman-Heighton, Development Chef at Funnybones Foodservice.
“Now we’ve used the same traditional technique to create savoury varieties, and are launching Manchego and Chorizo versions of these snacks. We’ve chosen to use smoky, spicy Chorizo and Manchego cheese with its’ buttery taste as both of these products have a strong connection with Mexico where they are widely used in many dishes.”
The mini savoury churros are perfect for bar snacks, starters, sharing platters and tapas style dining. They are fully cooked before freezing so require only reheating for a few minutes before serving. For best results cook from frozen, either in the deep fryer or the oven.
They are delicious as they are, or serve with a spicy tomato dip.
