Award-Winning Business Owner Acquires Second Fish and Chip Shop With HSBC UK Support

An award-winning business owner from Devon has acquired a second fish and chip shop in Westward Ho after securing a six-figure commercial mortgage from HSBC UK

The Golden Fry has been taken over by Sarah Lock, who has used HSBC UK funding to purchase and rebrand the restaurant. Sarah, who already owns the award-winning Harbourside Fish and Chips in Plymouth, has renamed the shop Atlantic Bay Fish & Chips. Four new full-time staff have been employed to help run the restaurant.

As part of the takeover, a complete refurbishment of the premises has been completed, including the creation of a 20-seat dining area and 40-seat outdoor terrace, a new shop frontage, kitchen and walk-in freezer. The new owner has also introduced a fresh menu which includes gluten free options.

Sarah Lock, owner of Atlantic Bay Fish & Chips said:

“The team at Harbourside Fish & Chips has always prided itself on community service and a passion for good food. I wanted to take these values and expand my portfolio, then I saw a fantastic opportunity in Golden Fry to grow the business. With the support of my HSBC UK relationship manager, Sarah Drake, I have been able to fulfil this ambition and I can’t wait to welcome the local community to Atlantic Bay Fish & Chips.”

Mark Self, HSBC UK’s Area Director for Devon, Cornwall and Somerset, said:

“With over a decade of experience in the industry and a hugely dedicated team, we’re delighted to have supported Sarah in acquiring her second restaurant. We wish her the best of luck in the future and look forward to seeing her award-winning business grow.”

In 2018 Harbourside Fish and Chips, which is managed by Sarah’s brother Chris, was awarded the best fish and chip shop in the South West by the National Fish & Chip Awards.
