National Fish & Chip Awards - Marketing Innovation Award

Shap Chippy in Shap, Penrith has won the Marketing Innovation Award, as part of the National Fish & Chip Awards 2020

The National Fish & Chip Awards is a UK-wide competition celebrating true excellence in the fish and chip industry organised by Seafish, the public body that supports the £10bn UK seafood industry. The Marketing Innovation Award celebrates fish and chip businesses that showcase exceptional skills in marketing, promotion and campaign delivery.

The worthy winners beat off strong competition from two other shortlisted finalists to bag the award. To take home the title, Shap Chippy was assessed against a wide variety of judging criteria, including audience segmentation, promotional budget allocation, planning and implementation of marketing campaigns and results achieved over the past year.

Marcus Coleman, Chief Executive at Seafish, said: “With competition across all areas of the food service industry increasing year on year, effective marketing campaigns have never been more important to a business operating in this sector. Shap Chippy has shown great creativity in promoting their business and the positive impact the marketing efforts have had on driving sales is great to see.

“Shap Chippy’s marketing ensures a constant stream of fish and chip lovers through the door, and the quality of product and service on offer ensures they continue to visit time and time again. The business is a true inspiration and a worthy winner of this award category.”

Isaac Fisher, General Manager at award sponsor Pukka, said: “Ever since we first started making and baking pies in 1963, fish and chip shops have been – and always will be – at the heart of our story. The quality of their marketing and promotional activity is key to growth and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to support an award that recognises fish and chip businesses that lead the way in creativity and innovation, setting a high standard for their industry peers to aspire to. Well done to Snap Chippy for taking home the Marketing Innovation Award this year.”

A portion of fish and chips can also contribute towards one of the recommended five a day portions of fruit and vegetables if mushy peas are included. It can also be one of the recommended two portions of fish a week that we should all be eating as part of a balanced diet. Fish and chip shops and restaurants cater to a diverse range of lifestyle and health choices by providing small portion size choices, gluten free options and various types of fish species. Innovation is key for many businesses, with fish and chip shops constantly evolving and adding varied and interesting options to their menus.
